Ashcan arts came from the idea of finding art in the ashcans of the cities. The artists of this movement shared a common view of everyday life how a journalist (and poet) would see it, as many of these artists had experience as illustrators for newspapers or magazines. Ashcan artists went against the academic posturing of the conventional art world.
